Features

General

• Rare (<2% of bladder cancer)
• Often mixed component with urothelial carcinoma
• 2 types: colonic (more common) and signet ring (rare)

Architecture

• Crowded 3D clusters
• Signer ring type may have predominantly single cells

Cellular features

• Cuboidal to columnar cells
• Vacuolated cytoplasm
• May have cytoplasmic mucin and signet ring cells

Nuclear features

• Enlarged, irregular , pleomorphic nuclei
• Coarse chromatin
• Prominent nucleoli

Background

• Mucin may be present
• Necrotic debris
• Mitosis may be present
