Features

Architecture

• Dispersed lymphoid cells
• May form lymphoid aggregates
• Mix of centrocytes and centroblasts

Cellular features

• Centrocytes are small to medium-sized lymphoid cells
• Centroblasts are large cells

Nuclear features

• Centrocytes
- angulated or cleaved nuclei
- inconspicuous nucleoli
• Centroblasts
- round to oval nuclei
- vesicular chromatin
- 1 to 3 peripheral nucleoli

Immunoperoxidase Stains

• Typically positive for Pan-B-cell markers, CD10
* Negative for CD5 and CD43

Flow Cytometry

• Typically express CD45 (bright), CD19, CD20, CD10; kappa or lambda light-chain restriction
• Negative for CD5

Molecular

• t(14;18)(q32;q21) in 80-90% cases
