Cellular smears with papillary structures with fibrovascular cores, lined by small cells with round uniform nuclei, fine chromatin, inconspicuous nucleoli and pale cytoplasm with abundant foamy macrophages.
High power: Pap stain
Sheet of malignant cells with round to slightly irregular uniform nuclei, fine chromatin, inconspicuous nucleoli and pale cytoplasm. Note nuclear grooves.

• Express CK7, cytokeratin, EMA, CD10, AMACR, RCC; vimentin +/- ; negative for CD117
• May have Trisomy chromosome 7, 16 or 17, loss of Y
