• Hypercellular smears
• Sheet-like, papillary, single cells
• May have transgressing vessels through fragments

Cellular features

• Large, bland, round to polygonal cells
• Vacuolated cytoplasm
• May have large vacuole or soap-bubble like multiple vacuoles
• No granules in cytoplasm

Nuclear features

• Round to oval, uniform nuclei
• Irregular nuclear membranes
• Naked stripped nuclei may be present
• Open fine chromatin
• Small inconspicuous nucleoli

Background

• Granular debris or cystic
• Histiocytes
• May have mucin
• No matrix-like material
• No necrosis
• No mitosis

Ancillary

• IHC: positive for S100, mammaglobin, GATA-3; negative for DOG-1
• Molecular: defined by t(12;15) (p13;q25) ETV6-NTRK3 gene rearrangement
